Looking Closely At Liston Colaco – The Rising Star Of ATK Mohun Bagan

Liston Colaco has been one of the best signings for ATK Mohun Bagan in the current season. The midfielder has scored some amazing goals and contributed with some important assists as well. His dribbling skills have also been on display, helping ATK Mohun Bagan in creating goal-scoring opportunities. All in all, he has  been a key player for the team and has played a major role in their successful run this season.

In his recent matches for the Mariners, he has been on fire.

There is little argument that Liston Colaco has been fantastic for ATK Mohun Bagan this season. He has been the hero for Central Coast Mariners, who have had to deal with a number of key player injuries, including Roy Krishna and Hugo Boumous, in 19 games (11 goals). In fact, no other domestic player has taken part in more goals than the Indian international.

In this campaign, Colaco has shown his ability to perform in a variety of ways. His goal against Bengaluru FC, which came from an incredible free-kick and a screamer, is the stuff of legend. The ball rose at an ideal height, swerved, and then dipped just enough in the nick of time to find the top corner with his knuckle-ball method (typically employed by Cristiano Ronaldo).

The 24-year-old has also registered 4 assists in the I-League this season. He has successfully completed 78 dribbles out of the 103 attempted, which is a testament to his agility and close control on the ball.

What’s even more impressive is that he has done all of this while playing as a winger who is  not known for his defensive contribution. Colaco has averaged 2.8 tackles and 2 interceptions per game this season, which is a decent return for a player who is not expected to do the dirty work.

It will be interesting to see how he fares against Mohun Bagan’s biggest rivals East Bengal in the Kolkata Derby on Sunday. With the form that he is in, there is no reason why Colaco cannot help his team pick up all 3 points at the Salt Lake Stadium.

A versatile player, Colaco is capable of playing as a winger, forward or attacking midfielder. He is known for his dribbling skills and his ability to take on defenders. He has also been praised for his work-rate and tactical awareness.

Colaço’s performances for Mohun Bagan have led to comparisons with Brazilian  football legend Ronaldinho. Mohun Bagan’s coach Kibu Vicuna has said that “Liston is a very special player. He has the talent to become a big player in Indian football. We are very lucky to have him at Mohun Bagan.”

Liston Colaco, an Indian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for  ATK Mohun Bagan and the India national football team, has been impressive for both clubs in terms of goals, dribbles and shots. Colaco caught attention while playing for Salgaocar and Goa in the Santosh Trophy. He then joined Indian Super League side FC Goa in 2017 and made his professional debut on 19 November against Chennai yin. Colaco then moved to Hyderabad FC in 2020, where he scored 4 goals in his debut season.

On 10 April 2021, it was announced that Colaco would be transferring to ATK Mohun Bagan for an undisclosed transfer fee, which is reported to be around 1 crore rupees. This move set a new record in Indian football  for the highest transfer fee for an Indian player.

Colaco’s performance in the ISL

Colaco has already scored once for Mohun Bagan in the 2021-22 season, and is known for his dribbling skills, work-rate, and tactical awareness. He has been praised by coaches and fans alike for his impressive  performances. With Colaco in the team, ATK Mohun Bagan is sure to dominate Indian football.

Jairo Colaco, on the other hand, has the audacity to take a shot from outside the penalty area and has scored 12 times from long-range, including two goals. The one against FC Goa is undoubtedly an ambition of the pretender, as Colaco’s strike completely stumped Dheeraj Singh in goal. To put it another way, no player has taken more shots this season than Colaco.

Liston Colaco has been in red-hot form for ATK Mohun Bagan this season. The Indian striker has scored 8 goals and assisted 4 in 14 appearances, helping the Kolkata club to a 3rd-place finish in the league table. His performances have caught the eye of many top clubs in India, with Hyderabad  FC securing his signature in a record-breaking deal.

Overall

Colaco has been an absolute nightmare for defenders, as he is quick and skilled in one-on-one scenarios. He has completed 29 dribbles this season, which is the most among Indian players and only seven away from Javi Hernandez, who holds the record with 36.

However, as previously said, he is gold but still in a furnace at the age of 23. He has developed significantly under Juan Ferrando, yet he must still polish himself to be compared with the Greg Stewarts or Adrian Luna’s ivy league. For his performance on Sunday, he was selected as the player of the match for a goal and an assist against Hyderabad FC, but this does not take away from the fact that he squandered two clear-cut scoring chances.

He has made considerable progress from the previous season when he played for Hyderbad FC, although he is still a long way off being deadly in front of goal. To summarize, he has missed eight big chances this season, jointly with Manvir Singh. This emphasizes that despite the fact that Colaco’s strikes are a joy to behold, his finishing must be considerably better if he is to succeed in footballing terms.

Nonetheless, Colaco has been a revelation for ATK Mohun Bagan and will be looking to continue his good form in the remainder of the season. With 10 goals and 5 assists this season, he is one of the most important players for both clubs and will hope to make a big impact in the upcoming playoffs. Will he be able to  fire his team to their maiden I-League title? Only time will tell.
