Erling Haaland Set to Move to Barcelona?

Erling Haaland, who is the son of former Leeds United player Alf-Inge Haaland, claims that his father has spoken to Solskjaer about the youngster.

“I talked with Ole Gunnar Solksjaer and he asked me if I would play in Barcelona or Real Madrid if it were up to me, ” explained the youngster.

“I told him that it would be Barcelona [if not Real Madrid]. It [would] be a dream come true for me and my family to play here. “Who wouldn’t want to play in this team? They have won everything and they are among the best in the world, even if we have not been in our best form.

“That’s why one gets a bit angry because you see that they have a lot of quality and it does not lie in the legs. “With so much quality in the squad, I can’t understand why we have been so terrible this season.”

Haaland is an interesting character, with the player himself admitting to feeling as though he was born in the wrong era.

Erling Haaland

Erling Haaland is a Norwegian professional footballer who plays for Borussia Dortmund and the Norway national team as a striker. Haaland is known for his speed, athleticism, and finishing ability, earning him acclaim as one of the world’s best strikers.

Rune Haaland began his career with Bryne in Norway, where he played for two seasons before joining Red Bull Salzburg in Austria in January 2019. He won two Austrian Bundesliga titles and one Austrian Cup with Salzburg. Haaland became the first teenager to score in five consecutive UEFA Champions League matches during the 2019–20 campaign, breaking a record held by Pele (1958) and Zico (1990).

He was also signed by Real Betis in July 2019 after previously playing for PEC Zwolle and Celta Vigo. He made his debut for Real Betis on August 14, 2019, at Estadio Benito Villamarin against RCD Espanyol. His transfer to Borussia Dortmund was completed in December 2019 for a fee estimated at around €20 million. Haaland also won the 2020 Golden Boy award. In 2020–21, he was important in Dortmund’s DFB-Pokal triumph and Champions League top scorer accolade, as well as winning the Bundesliga Player of the Season award.

At the international level, Inge-Lise Haaland has represented Norway on numerous occasions. At the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup, Haaland won the Golden Boot for scoring a record nine goals in one game, becoming the first player to do so in competition history. In September 2019, he made his senior debut for Norway.

The 21-year-old only began his professional career just recently,  but has already earned comparisons with compatriot John Carew due to his imposing frame and natural goal-scoring ability.

“I am a big fan of their Henry and Carew, ” admitted Haaland.

“They are both my idols and I always liked to watch them play when they were in their prime. “Both of them were very physical players and that is why I like them because there aren’t many big strikers who can score goals like that anymore.”

Haaland already has four goals to his name this season and is regarded as one of Norway’s brightest young talents.

His father had high hopes for him, claiming that it would be better for him to play at Barcelona than Real Madrid in an interview he gave back in 2015.

“I think Haaland will make it big if he stays in football. If not, he will become an architect or something else, ” said Haaland Snr.

Interest in Barcelona

When it comes to the Champions League, Haaland has had limited opportunities since making his debut against Swiss club Young Boys last December.

Haaland says he dreams of playing alongside Messi someday and that he’d feel incredible just being in the same room as him. The 21-year-old Norwegian striker claims that if not for Lionel Messi, then Barcelona would have no chance of winning the European Cup this year.

“I think it would be better if he goes to Barcelona than Real Madrid. “He is a big fan of Messi and Iniesta and I think going there would be a dream come true for him.”

Last month saw Haaland Jnr caught in the middle of a transfer tug-of-war between Dortmund and Manchester United after both clubs expressed their interest in signing up the youngster on a permanent basis from Lillestrom SK.

While his time at Dortmund was largely unsuccessful because of injury, his performances have been catching the eye ever since his return this season.

Haaland has made five appearances for Lillestrom SK this season but is yet to open his account.
